I suppose it was inevitable, but Dragon Con 2020 has finally been cancelled due to the pandemic. While I am saddened by this, I am not surprised. I’m only surprised it took them this long. I had already cancelled my appearance, scratching another con I dearly looked forward to, especially this horrible year of all years, off my list.
Dragon Con is special to me. It is not only my “home” con, but I can also trace the start of my writing career, such as it is, directly to this event. I will miss it, and look forward to being able to appear as an attending pro next year.
But there is some good news. The con is going virtual. They are also rolling my attendance over to next year even though I recently cancelled, so that’s one less thing to worry about. I can also participate in virtual panels. While it won’t be the same as attending in person, virtual panels will let me talk about geeky topics with my friends and maybe occasionally show off my wares. We’ll see what transpires.
I’m also planning on hosting at least one digital networking gathering for authors, or “barcon.” So watch my Facebook pages and this space for details.
I don’t know how exactly these things are going to shake out, but I know one thing: Dragon Con 2021 is going to be off the chain. See you next year.
