Mechanoid Press to Unleash Classic Monster Anthologies Halloween 2022
Atlanta, GA: Today, Mechanoid Press, a small indie publisher of science fiction and pulp adventure, announced its latest anthology.
League of Monsters will feature stories about a group of classic-style monsters teaming up to battle various occult threats around the globe. The book will be edited by James Palmer, writer and publisher of Mechanoid Press, and will sport a cover by multiple Rondo Award-winning artist Mark Maddox.
“I’ve had this idea bouncing around in my head for a few years now, and I decided it was finally time to pull the trigger,” says Palmer. “This is very much a passion project.”
The idea of teaming up such iconic monsters holds a special appeal for Palmer. “The Universal monsterverse was the first-ever shared cinematic universe decades before Marvel Films,” he says. “While we can’t use those exact monsters (I really don’t want to get sued), Universal gave us powerful templates upon which creators can put their own spin on these legendary creatures. I hope readers like both my setup and what the writers do with them.”
To help him bring these classic creatures to life, Palmer has enlisted the aid of the award-winning artist Mark Maddox, who is no stranger to classic monsters. His work has graced the covers of many monster and horror magazines including HorrorHound, Screem Magazine, Undying Monsters, Little Shoppe of Horrors, Mad Scientist Magazine, and many more.
“I’ve known Mark for several years now,” says Palmer. “He’s more than just a friend, he’s one of the best science fiction, fantasy, and horror artists in the world, and I could not even conceive of this project seeing the light of day unless he was a part of it.”
Response to the call for writers was overwhelming, so there will now be two volumes of League of Monsters. Volume one will feature stories by James Palmer, Bobby Nash, James A. Moore, Teel James Glenn, Tom Powers, and Davide Mana. Volume two will contain stories by Russell Nohelty, Jessica Nettles, Joe Crowe, Michael Gordon, Chris Palmer (no relation), and Colin Joss.
Mechanoid Press will run a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the production of both League of Monsters volumes sometime early to the middle of 2022, and the books will go out to backers first before being published in October, just in time for Halloween.
“I’m really excited about this project,” says Palmer. “I hope classic monster fans dig it.”
Both books are currently full, but you can read the story bible here.
